Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The main impacts were really only the first 2-3 weeks when my mobility was affected following the operation, but after about 6 weeks I felt pretty normal. I did subsequently have a urinary tract infection (approx 8 weeks post operation), which was somewhat uncomfortable, but this was easily treated and quite quickly resolved with antibiotics. It took about 15 months for my sex life to return to normal; I was fortunate in that the cancer was caught whilst still self contained in the prostate, and that during surgery ,the nerve sparing element of the operation went well.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I felt that by having the radical prostatectemy , I had an opportunity to get rid of the cancer in total, whereas in my mind there could have been doubt that it was removed 100% and could return in the future if I had undertaken the other options given to me eg radiotherapy.
