Hormone Therapy (injections)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The initial post-operative period with an in dwelling catheter was most irksome. There was a long period of weakness and I realised I am no longer fit to take part in vigorous physical activity. My sexual competence was poor before the diagnosis, but since the operation I have been completely impotent. Fortunately this has not massively harmed my marriage, but it is definitely a loss. I am in the process of selling our sailing boat as it is clear that I am no longer fit enough to manage the more physically demanding tasks such as weighing the anchor and reefing in strong winds.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The gland has been totally removed. There were a couple of breaches of the capsule, but so far no evidence of spread on PET scan. There has been a modest rise in PSA, and so I am on goserelin and in line for radiotherapy in a few weeks. I am not convinced that radiotherapy and hormonal treatment would offer a better prospect of survival.
