Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any bladder or bowel side effects of treatment

Take the advice offered by your doctor; wear the pads but don't become reliant on them. Try to re-adjust back to normal as quickly as possible. With the procedure, you lose some penile length, so beware of this. I was given a penile exercise device to exercise the penis and aid erections. This did not work for me so I was offered injections to bring on an erection. Speak with your health professional and be straight with them; tell them what you are experiencing; they are likely to be helpful. And equally, keep your partner informed and involved; this is vitally important.

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Be careful overdosing on the injections as you could have very extended erections that are very uncomfortable. If you have to have medication for this condition, all your medications are free of charge.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

There is no sexual spontaneity with sex - that's by bugbear! With men it's 'downstairs' first then 'upstairs' - usually. But now I can go for weeks without sex unless I start upstairs.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I wanted to deal with the issue once and for all.
