David's Story
The impact of the treatment was a lot less than I was expecting. During the four week program it was totally consuming and I focused all of my efforts on getting it completed. I went into the treatment physically fit and while stopping using the rowing machine and Xtrainer I continued with my daily dog walking routine in the woods and along the country walking routes. I managed the side effects on my bowel and bladder by planning the walks and utilising secluded boltholes to relieve myself when the need came up. There were many occasions where I just made it back home in the nick of time. These side effects gradually eased over a period of around 6-months after my radiotherapy was completed.

Throughout my treatment my oncology and radiotherapy team performed in a caring and professional manner making sure that the process of delivery the radiation to my prostate was religiously followed. One one occasion when the initial scan that was carried out prior to commencing the delivery of the radiation the team noticed that my bowel was impacted by trapped gas and stopped the procedure until I was given the chance to release the gas before proceeding. This gave me the confidence that I was in good hands and they were taking care of my wellbeing.
