Hormone Therapy (tablets)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

My PSA increased from 7 to 9 to 10. GP sent me to consultant urologist at hospital. He gave me a biopsy. Followed by MRI a week or so later. BIG MISTAKE which led to mis-diagnosis Told me is was 3+4. Nine tumours all over 4mm. Gave me hormone tablets for four weeks, and hormone injections three months apart. Radiotherapy booked for later. I was not happy and consulted a urologist privately at specialist prostrate clinic. His team analysed the hospital findings - seven very small tumours, the other two about 2mm (half diagnosed size). Told me that MRI must ALWAYS come before biopsy, hence bad diagnosis. I did NOT need hormone injections - tablets did the job. So a year of my life has been stolen with horrible side effects. Radiotherapy cancelled. New PSA came in recently at 1.2. Another MRI (privately) and now the urologist and oncologist are assessing the best way forward to deal with the two tumours - now quite small. The message is - GET A SECOND OPINION !!

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

No

Why did I give this answer?
