Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

Prior to my having surgery my wife and I agreed that sex was no longer something we were going to do. I didn't fancy any of the aids and my wife did not have a high libido anyway. I think it is important to have a discussion about the physical aspects of relationships before having radical surgery. Often partners do not express their thoughts on this unless prompted.

Tips and advice for any physical side effects of treatment

Don't be surprised if you get side effects most people do. Knowing they are a consequence of the treatment can help you manage them. Don't ignore lymphoedema because it can have medical consequences.

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

I did find that I had a lot of mood swings which at times were quite troubling. It helped to go on to a facebook page for prostate cancer and post my concerns. Many other men had similar side effects and knowing that was reassuring.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Clearly having my prostate removed meant a major change in my life, I now have lymphodema in my left leg and wear a support stocking, I wear a small incontinence pad because I drip anf dribble a bit. I don't feel any less of a man because I no longer have erections, or because of the changes that have occurred.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Removing the prostate in my mind meant removing the problem. I realsied that other problems could occur but at least I had attacked the source of the problem.
