Radiotherapy

Tips and advice for any mental and emotional side effects of treatment

I developed shingles in the March following my treatment in December. I have been prone to anxiety and depression all my life and this re-emerged. I was prescribed SSRI's which I still take albeit on a lower dose.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The treatment was painless. I was able to take part in research study (PACT) which measured conventional radiotherapy vs stereotactic radiotherapy. The study was to determine the side effects of both treatments. I had 5 treatments over 2 weeks rather than the conventional 20 treatment over 4 weeks. The fact that I didn't have to travel to the hospital was a plus and I showed no immediate side effects apart from relief.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

It was painless, non-invasive and had no immediate side effects.
