Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Being in good condition for the op. was essential and getting your head around the possible side affects of erectile dysfunction and incontinence pre op. is imperative. The initial pain associated with the operation was short lived as was the ten days inconvenience of being catheterised. However, the inevitable initial incontinence had a minor impact, in as much as you can’t start to excercise properly during the recovery period to prevent herniating and obviously the wearing of pads until you’ve sorted those pelvic floors.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

I’m an extremely positive person and my way of thinking was, if I came out of the op. and I wasn’t dribbling, that was a bonus. If I came out of the operation and could still get an erection, that was another bonus. If I came out of the operation and all the cancer was removed, job done. If I had minor incontinence and/or my penis was looking at the floor for the rest of my life, I could live with it. Great surgeon, who made the whole process easy to cope with and had some good laughs.
