Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

If at all possible would definitely go for robot assisted radical prostatectomy. I dreaded the risk of permanent incontinence post surgery, but was so relieved to have no postop problems (especially as they’d been a bit reluctant to offer RARP because of a few pre-existing health conditions). Couldn’t believe it when they said I’d be dry by night within days of removal of the catheter - but I was. Dry by day took a couple of weeks, as did resolution of mild haematuria, but I was amazed, and delighted, to achieve this so quickly. Now approaching 4 years post surgery, with undetectable PSA so far, and the only real problem is erectile failure, unresolved by medication, but thankfully my wife is happy to accept this as a small price to pay for successful surgery.

Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Great relief to have the chance for radical surgery, though still an anxious wait for the PSA screening result every 6 months as resection margins not totally clear

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The best chance of a complete cure, provided no spread, and the best way to get peace of mind once given the diagnosis
