Focal Therapy

How this treatment impacted my life the most

There was an initial reduction in ability to get an erection. Over a period of months this improved and is almost back to the pre-operative situation. I do keep a stock of blue pills (sildenafil) but this is as much for confidence as being strictly necessary.

I feel extremely fortunate to have escaped from a cancer diagnosis with such minor impacts. I would describe the impacts as minimal. I think much more about other ways that ageing is impacting me.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

With HIFU I have only minor impact on erectile function and zero impacts on urinary continence. HIFU was possible as my cancer was mainly in one side of the prostate. I would recommend HIFU to anyone.

I feel incredibly lucky to have escaped so lightly from a potentially serious condition. There has been no impact at all on urination/incontinence and only a slight impact on erection. If your cancer is grade group 3 (Gleason 4+3) like mine, I urge you to investigate "focal" therapies such as HIFU or electroporation. My cancer was located in only one side of the prostate and that made it suitable for HIFU.
