Low Dose Rate Brachytherapy

How this treatment impacted my life the most

I had LDR brachytherapy in August 2020 and my PSA has now dropped to very low (late 2023), so the treatment has been successful. Before treatment I was a hillwalker, ran marathons and did Ironman triathlons and I was worried that the treatment would affect my athletic abilities. A week after treatment, I was able to go for short runs and swims and a month after treatment, I restarted gentle bike rides, although I had to change my saddle to reduce pressure on the prostate area. I have now done 7 marathons and 5 Ironmans since treatment; I’m getting slower, but I think that is just the normal effects of aging, not the treatment. If you’re a cyclist I would strongly recommend using a saddle with a slot such as ISM as it reduces pressure on the prostate area.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Minimal side effects, successful outcome
