Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

I found (after putting it off 2 years) that the best treatment was self-injection with Viridal. I have gradually had to increase the doses but still have some function. Don’t be put off seeking the best help, and remember also that intimacy means a lot more than just penetration. You can stay sexual if you don’t fixate on just the mechanical aspects, and a supportive partner will really boost your confidence.

How this treatment impacted my life the most

I am grateful for the treatment because it was just in time, and saved my life. If I had left it much longer, the cancer would have continued to spread beyond a point where it was treatable. I had robotic surgery which enabled me to return to work within 3 weeks and resume a demanding career. The impact on sexual spontaneity was considerable but medication helps.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

The surgery was decisive, removing the tumour completely without the necessity for follow-up. I preferred this approach to radiotherapy etc. Although it has had an impact, on the who,e my life has resumed as normal.
