Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

Tips and advice for any sexual side effects of treatment

It’s still possible to have an active sex life after a radical prostatectomy

How this treatment impacted my life the most

The treatment impacted my sex life the most. I realised that what usually initiated sex between me and my wife was just simply the turn on of me having an erection. So following surgery, the lack of erections meant that she was just not interested anymore. The fact that she couldn’t make me have an erection, meant she wasn’t motivated to try any more and so she lost interest in initiating anything.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Although my pre op Gleason score was 4+4, the histology came back as 3+4. Had it been possible to know that beforehand, I may have opted for focal beam therapy. But with a score of 8, a radical prostatectomy seemed the best option.
