Radical Prostatectomy (Surgery)

How this treatment impacted my life the most

Prior to treatment I had not experienced any major health problems. The subsequent journey through diagnosis, scanning, biopsy, surgery and recovery was in my case both an extraordinary experience and at times physically and mentally testing. I have been left with firstly: a feeling of how fortunate I was having the early diagnosis, secondly: to live in a time of remarkable medical science and procedures.

If I had to do it all over again, would I choose the same treatment?

Yes

Why did I give this answer?

Having gathered a lot of information from many sources, including consultants, specialist nurses and prostate cancer support groups, I decided that as a suitable candidate (in my case) to opt for surgery. It was important for me to have the cancer physically removed from my body. I was made fully aware of the "trade off" implications, specifically in this scenario, loss of erectile function, which I suggest should always be considered against reduced lifespan.
